Create a Cozy Fall Retreat

Create a Cozy Fall Retreat

September 28, 2020

Ready for hot apple cider, cozy sweaters and brightly colored leaves? We know we are — and not a moment too soon. Autumn décor lends itself to comfort and coziness, and who couldn’t use a little of that? So, if you are ready to exchange those beach-themed throw pillows for soft plaids, here are some tips for creating a cozy fall retreat.

Enlist the Kids

Kids love to make things so why not ask them to help? Display their fall- and holiday-themed artwork on the refrigerator, then spend the weekends crafting kid-friendly decorating items like these fun crafts courtesy of PureWow.

Make an Entrancing Entrance

Just because you are mostly welcoming the Amazon delivery person, doesn’t mean you can’t jazz up your front door and porch with wreathes, DIY signposts and pumpkins. Even if you aren’t great at decorating, you are sure to fall for these amazing ideas on Pinterest.

Add Some Plaid

There’s just something about plaid that screams fall. Use it on your tabletops, fill baskets with plaid blankets and add some color to your patio furniture. Plaid comes in all sorts of colors from blues and greens to yellows and orange, so there is no excuse for not adding some to your home. Not sure where to start? HGTV put together a great tutorial.

Festive Fall Flower Arranging

You don’t have to wait until Thanksgiving to start arranging your centerpieces. Fall flowers add color and warmth throughout your home. Use tiny pumpkins, colorful Chrysanthemums, fruits and more to beautify your home. HGTV has a tutorial for that, as well.

Pick a Peck of Pumpkins

Many pumpkin patches are offering ways to pick up “gourd-geous” gourds in a socially distant manner. And since they can’t all become jack o’ lanterns, why not use them on the porch, on the kitchen island and by the fireplace? Need a head start? Southern Living has got you covered.

Candles Set the Mood

Fall-themed candles smell yummy and make colorful accent pieces. Food52 lists this year’s top 21 scents. Or try making these scrumptious pie a la mode candles.
