Leaman Junior High Wins Accolades

Cross Creek Ranch - Leaman Junior High Wins Accolades

October 05, 2021

Leaman Junior High is the school to beat when it comes to fine arts and athletics —something all Cross Creek Ranch residents zoned to the school can be proud of.

The junior high opened five years ago, making it one of the newest schools in Lamar Consolidated ISD. The school serves grades 7-8 and is ranked in the top 15 percent on a list of the best middle schools in Texas. The school boasts a strong curriculum with students performing above average on state-mandated tests.

Leaman Junior High also is a winner when it comes to music. The band has received many accolades at the district and state level. At the district level, the band has garnered five Sweepstakes awards. They took home trophies in 2017 and 2018 as well as a superior rating in Sightreading in 2019. The varsity team won Sweepstakes awards in 2018 and 2019. They finished in fourth place for the region in 2018. The varsity wind symphony advanced to state in 2019 where it finished in sixth place.

Leaman athletes have won many district awards. In 2016, not long after the school opened, the eighth-grade girls cross country and tennis teams took home the trophy. 2017 through 2019 were outstanding years for football, with the seventh-grade team winning championships in 2017 and 2019. The eighth grade team won in 2018. Both the girls and boys seventh-grade basketball teams were district champions in 2019.

Unfortunately, not many competitions or sporting events could be held in 2020, but we know this year, our Chargers will be on top again.

A full range of extracurricular activities and clubs are also available to students. They can participate in journalism, yearbook, choir, theater arts and more. Clubs include cheerleading, dance, Future Business Leaders of America and 10 more. Students can also partake in a range of UIL competitions.

It all adds up to well-rounded students ready to take on the challenges of high school and beyond. We’re proud of our junior high school students and all they have accomplished. We look forward to watching them excel in the future.
