![]() Grand Central Park - Neighbors Come Together for Outrun Hunger 5K & Color DashJune 23, 2025
The Montgomery County Food Bank’s Outrun Hunger 5K and 1K Color Dash took center stage at The Lake House earlier this month with runners and walkers traversing our scenic trails and going above and beyond in their quest to take on one of the biggest challenges facing our neighbors — hunger. Spoiler alert: They crushed it. The 5K trail race brought out the serious competitors, while the 1K Color Dash provided a messier (and arguably more photogenic) way to join in the fun. For those who kept it strictly business, Jonathan Rotzien and Maureen Meredith proved they had speed to spare, snagging the overall male and female 5K wins, respectively. Thanks to everyone who participated, sponsored or cheered from the sidelines. The event raised enough funds to provide a whopping 365,758 meals to Montgomery County families in need. As the Venue Sponsor for the annual event, Grand Central Park made sure The Lakehouse was the MVP of the day, serving as ground zero for all the action. From a lively kid’s zone (featuring bounce houses and lawn games) to photo ops that guaranteed their Instagram game stayed strong, there was something for everyone. And can we talk about the food trucks? Because, honestly, crossing the finish line to the smell of delicious food might just be the best motivation ever. Why was this race so important? Well, summer often brings a spike in food insecurity, especially for kids who lose access to school meal programs. That’s where the Montgomery County Food Bank comes in, stepping up to ensure tables stay full and tummies remain happy. Missed this year’s race? Don’t worry, we won’t judge—but we will encourage you to get involved next time. Events like the Outrun Hunger 5K and 1K Color Dash are a blast, but they’re also crucial to supporting the Montgomery County Food Bank’s mission of fighting hunger in our community. Whether you run, walk, volunteer or just cheer from the sidelines, you’re helping ensure that every family has access to nutritious meals.
