Grange - Meet Alyssa Brewer, Our New Lifestyle Director

Meet Alyssa Brewer, the new mastermind behind making life a little more fun, a lot more connected, and a touch more extraordinary for the residents of Grange.

Alyssa may be our new Lifestyle Director, but she is no stranger to creating vibrant, thriving communities having served as the former lifestyle director for our sister Johnson Developmentcommunities Cross Creek Ranch and Cross Creek West.

There she brought her creativity and passion to the design of 75 events a year, so she’s more than ready to bring her A-game to Grange. Her ultimate mission? To help residents feel like they belong and to build relationships that make the community more than just a place to live.

“All event planning starts with identifying the purpose of the event,” Alyssa said. “Is it to bring people together? Is it to celebrate a holiday? Is it to raise money for a great cause? Once you figure that out, the fun of building the event begins! I like to start with the experience that I want the attendees to have. What will they see? What will they eat? What will they post on their social media from the event? “

So, how did Alyssa Brewer go from being an artsy Texas kid to a powerhouse lifestyle director? Well, it all started with a love for the spotlight.

“My mom put me in dance lessons as soon as I could walk, and I fell in love with it,” she said. “This led me to perform in plays and musicals, sing in my church choir, and become the captain of my high school dance team. With dancing, singing, and acting being a large part of my life, it made sense to continue pursuing these passions in college.”

She followed her dreams to the Santa Fe University of Art and Design where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Musical Theatre.

While studying, Alyssa discovered event planning — partly because college students need extra spending money and partly because she just couldn’t resist a good challenge.

“In college, I was given the opportunity to work part-time with an event planning company called High Desert Event Planning where I worked as an assistant coordinator helping with corporate retreats,” she said. “This involved planning and executing conferences as well as fun activities for these groups to participate in near Santa Fe. It was an amazing experience!”

After college, Alyssa returned to Texas and dove headfirst into the event planning world. Weddings, non-profit events, corporate gigs — you name it, she did it. Three years ago, she landed the job of Lifestyle Director for Cross Creek Ranch.

Alyssa credits her theater background for her event-planning success.

“Both events and theatre productions involve lots of people working together and have an end goal of entertaining their audiences,” Alyssa said. “Theatre productions have the actors front and center, which is similar to your customer-facing vendors at an event, but they also have technical people working behind the scenes raising and lowering the curtain, moving spotlights, and making sure that everything runs smoothly. This also happens at events.”

And Alyssa certainly left her mark on Cross Creek Ranch and Cross Creek West.

Take the Red, White, and GOLD Fourth of July Celebration, for example. Alyssa made it possible for residents to meet a real Olympic gold medalist while also enjoying Olympic-themed activities, relays, and sports challenges.

Then there was the Cross Creek and the Chocolate Factory Trail of Treats—a neighborhood-wide candy dreamland, complete with golden tickets, trick-or-treat stations and enough whimsy to make Willy Wonka jealous.

When not planning exceptional events, Alyssa enjoys spending time with the love of her life, her husband Kai. She also enjoys crafting, catching a show in Houston’s Theatre District, playing trivia, and spending time with her friends and family.
