Jordan Ranch - Lamar CISD Superintendent Named 2026 AASA National Superintendent of the Year

Co-sponsored by AASA, Corebridge Financial, and Sourcewell, the award celebrates superintendents who demonstrate outstanding leadership, innovation, and commitment to their school districts and communities. 

Dr. Nivens’ journey to this achievement reflects his unwavering commitment to education. In December 2025, he was named one of only four finalists from across the country, following his selection as the 2025 Texas Superintendent of the Year by the Texas Association of School Boards. On Feb. 12, his remarkable work and influence were officially recognized in a special ceremony. 

His leadership at Lamar CISD has been transformative, marked by strategic foresight and innovative solutions tailored to the district’s needs. Under his guidance, Lamar CISD has risen to meet the challenges of being the fastest-growing district of its size in Texas. With more than 49,000 students across 57 campuses and enrollment projected to grow to nearly 70,000 within the next decade, his focus on planning for hypergrowth has positioned the district for long-term success.  

One of Dr. Nivens’ most notable contributions is the implementation of the “Innovative School Day” program. This groundbreaking initiative reimagines the school calendar, providing teachers with designated time during the workday for collaboration, data analysis, and lesson planning. By prioritizing the well-being and professional growth of educators, the program reduces the burden of unpaid overtime often spent on nights and weekends. This innovative approach not only supports teachers but also strengthens the learning experience for students.  

His leadership extends beyond the district level, with his service as President-Elect of the Texas Association of School Administrators, where he advocates for the future of public education on a state and national level. 

Lamar CISD is fortunate to have a leader whose vision is centered around fostering strong relationships, supporting educators, and ensuring every student has access to a bright future. Jordan Ranch is fortunate in that our students attend Lamar CISD schools under his leadership.
