‘Lettuce’ Tell You All About Winter on the Village Farm!

Harvest Green - ‘Lettuce’ Tell You All About Winter on the Village Farm!

March 24, 2026

This winter season at the Harvest Green Village Farm was a mixed bag of fruits and veggies—unpredictable weather, exciting events, and plenty of opportunities to “turnip” the fun. Here are some of the juicy details!

The Weather Outside Was Frightful, But the Greenhouse was Delightful

This winter, Mother Nature went a bit bananas. We kicked off with unseasonably warm temps only to get hit with some frosty storms that reminded us it was, in fact, winter. The farmers were quick on their roots, though! While the tomatoes and peppers were cozy and thriving in the greenhouse—over 200 tomato plants potted, to be exact—the team worked hard anchoring frost cloth, harvesting storage crops, and prepping for post-freeze planting.

Farm Club Members Harvested Winter Wins

Our Farm Club members really “raked” it in this winter! With personalized gardening menus inspired by their culinary preferences and cultural dishes, members embraced the chance to grow their dream harvests. Whether experimenting with unique veggies or sticking to classics, their plots were bursting with flavor and personality.

Gettin’ Down and Dirty with Spring Gardening Class

Farmer Nathan dug deep into gardening wisdom with his Spring Gardening Class, and attendees ate it up—figuratively, of course. Participants learned everything from prepping their garden beds to understanding which veggie varieties thrive in Houston’s climate (hint: tomatoes and peppers LOVE it here). And because we’re all about sending people home with more than just knowledge, each attendee walked away with their very own potted veggie plant.

Saddle Up, Y’all: Rodeo Round Up Was A Real Hoedown!

February had us channeling our inner cowpoke at the Farmers Market Rodeo Round Up. Mechanical bull riding was the star attraction complemented by a variety of rodeo-themed activities.

The Goats Stole the Show at Our Annual Spring Kickoff

Spring officially sprang early at the Farmers Market, where our Annual Spring Kickoff event brought the whole farm fam together. The farm goats made a special appearance, and let’s just say their cuteness was “udderly” irresistible. Kids enjoyed games and exploring the market maze, while adults took their “thyme” browsing organic seasonal veggies and snatching up Village Farm-grown plants.
