Grand Central Park - Meet Cynthia: Finding Connection and a Place to Call Home in Grand Central ParkNovember 02, 2026
An orange dog, a glowing green “rave” collar and a friendly face on the trails. For many Grand Central Park residents, that combination can only mean one thing: Cynthia and her rescue pup, Devo, are out for a walk.
For Cynthia, those familiar paths and neighborly encounters are part of what has made Grand Central Park feel like home for the past five years.
A Community Worth Watching
Born in Washington, D.C., and raised in McLean, Virginia, Cynthia moved from Fairfax to The Woodlands in 2007. As Grand Central Park began taking shape, she kept an eye on the growing community. In January 2021, she made her move.
Today, it’s the peaceful, resort-like atmosphere that makes her especially happy with that decision. She loves walking around Paddle Lake and has collected what she describes as “about a million” sunset photos from The Lake House.
“I’m always happy to come home here,” Cynthia says. “All my neighbors are fabulous, and it truly feels like a community should feel.”
Family Comes First
Ask Cynthia about her proudest accomplishment, and the answer comes easily: raising her children, Lilli and Jack.
Lilli transferred to Texas A&M as a junior studying communications, while Jack attends Lone Star College and is considering the University of Texas. A friendly “house divided” rivalry could be in their future!
One of Cynthia’s most meaningful milestones was graduating from college at age 42, with both children there to watch her walk across the stage.
The family also includes three rescue pets, each with a story of their own. Devo is a Chihuahua/Whippet mix, Cheeto is a kitten rescued from a dumpster, and FangFang is a Russian Nebelung who wandered up to their home and decided to stay.
A Creative Spirit
Cynthia once dreamed of becoming the next Katie Couric, and her love of communication has remained a constant.
For the past four years, she has worked in senior care and now serves as sales director for an independent and assisted living community. She also enjoys copywriting, marketing and creating through her LLC, Y.M.I. Marketing, whose name contains a hidden question.
Away from work, her favorites include ’80s music, Friends, Scrubs, reality TV and football—especially her Washington Commanders. Her Audible collection includes more than 145 titles, mostly focused on faith, business, marketing and personal growth.
She also has a talent few people can claim: writing her name upside down and backward with both hands at the same time.
Making Connections Close to Home
Cynthia’s community favorites include Grand Central Park’s Halloween events and annual Nutcracker Market bus trip. She has also created a way for neighbors to connect through Grand Central Bazaar, a private Facebook buy-and-sell group exclusively for residents.
While a friend affectionately calls GCP the “Beverly Hills of Conroe,” Cynthia’s appreciation comes back to the people and the feeling of belonging.
Her greatest inspiration is her mother, a hardworking single mom who taught her to persevere. That lesson complements a favorite motto: “You already know what to do, you’re just negotiating with comfort.”
The next time a glowing green collar catches your eye along the trails, take a moment to say hello. Cynthia and Devo might just become two more familiar faces that make Grand Central Park feel like home.
