Woodforest - Holiday Traditions in South Montgomery County

December 02, 2013

Those who have lived in South Montgomery County for any length of time know the holiday season doesn’t truly begin until the start of several annual traditions:

The Ice Rink in The Woodlands
Don a pair of skates and glide around the popular ice rink that is now open daily through Jan. 20 at the northeast corner of Lake Robbins Road and Six Pines Drive. Hours are 3-9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 3-11 p.m. Fridays, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 7 p.m. Sundays. Cost is $9.50 per adult and $5 for children age five and under weekdays and $10.50 per adult and $6 for children five and under weekends (including $2.50 skate rental). Get $2 off admission here.

Donoho’s Jewellers Winter Wonderland in The Woodlands
Free to the public, this annual event features illuminated holiday scenes and storybook displays set up around the Ice Rink in The Woodlands. Wander through a fantasyland of lighted toy soldiers, elves, doves, musical angels and snowmen. This display also is open through Jan. 20.

The Fountains at Waterway Square
Through Jan. 4, the grand fountain’s cascading waterfalls, booming water jets and colorful lights are synchronized to classic holiday tunes, including Frosty the Snowman, Jingle Bells, Winter Wonderland, Feliz Navidad, Christmas Eve/Sarajevo and Wizards in Winter by Trans-Siberian Orchestra and The Most Wonderful Time of the Year. The fountains “dance” every 15 minutes noon to 2 p.m. and 6 to 11 p.m. weekdays and noon to 11 p.m. weekends.

Town Green Park Holiday Displays
Area residents are wowed by the park’s bright holiday displays nestled among rows of brightly lit trees, doves, snowflakes and other illuminated scenes. The park display opens nightly at 5:30 p.m. through Jan. 3 at 2099 Lake Robbins Drive.
