December 12, 2014

Construction has started on an $84 million indoor live entertainment and performing arts venue in Sugar Land.

Temporarily named the ACE Center of Sugar Land, the venue will be able to seat about 6,430 people. The facility’s movable walls will allow several venues in one building, with settings for 3,300 to more than 6,400 people. It is expected to host a broad range of performances, including music and comedy acts and theatrical stage productions. Located on 38.5 acres southeast of Highway 59 and University Boulevard, the center is expected to be complete in the fall of 2016.

Sugar Land Mayor James Thompson said in a recent news article that the center will make Sugar Land a destination for culture and entertainment.

The city partnered with ACE Theatrical Group in 2011 to design and build the facility. Linbeck Group Construction Company has been selected as the building contractor. The venue will anchor a 140 mixed-use development that could include retail, office, residential, commercial and entertainment surrounding a public plaza.
