Harvest Green - Harvest Green Partners with Local Charity to Feed Families in Need

Harvest Green is taking steps to ensure everyone in Fort Bend has access to fresh, healthy food by partnering with the East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry to fill the empty bowls of local families in need of temporary assistance.

The master-planned community is participating in a number of fundraising activities including the organization’s biggest fundraiser, Fort Bend Empty Bowls. In addition, Harvest Green will donate produce — grown on the community’s Village Farm — to the non-profit organization’s food pantry.

Harvest Green resident Stacey Williams, community outreach coordinator for the group, worked with Sylvia Morgese, Harvest Green’s lifestyle director, to launch the partnership. The pair’s first endeavor was an Empty Bowls fundraiser during which more than 30 residents attended a Bowl Painting Party to create eye-catching bowls that will be sold at the 8^th Annual Fort Bend Empty Bowls event April 28 at Safari Texas Ranch.

In addition, the ministry will be the beneficiary of Harvest Green’s Chef Fest, slated for Feb. 25. The celebration of local food and chefs will tie in with the efforts of the ministry and provide an opportunity for children to get involved at a Kid’s Sack tent. Children are invited to bring a kid-friendly food item to the tent and then stay to decorate a card and pack a lunch for a child that does not have the resources to afford one.

East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry is a mainstay in the Fort Bend community — an area many people don’t realize has a substantial number of families in need of food and other services.

Last year, the ministry distributed more than $885,000 worth of food and provided more than $132,000 in financial assistance. Because of the organization’s help, 15,471 children did not go hungry, 439 people were able to remain in their homes and 204 children were prevented from becoming homeless.

Harvest Green is a farm-centric community located in Richmond. The community’s centerpiece — the 18-acre on-site Village Farm — produces a variety of fruits and vegetables that are sold at resident pop-up markets and at monthly farmers markets. The community also boasts The Farmhouse, an expansive amenity center slated to open in April, and an abundance of lakes, waterways, open spaces, trails and parkland.
