Trinity Falls - Green Cleaning Tips For Your McKinney Home

June 17, 2014

With children and pets running around the house, the least thing you want to do is expose them (or yourself!) to harsh chemicals that have serious health and environmental implications. A lot of commercial cleaners are now advertising "all natural" ingredients, but that doesn't mean they really use natural ingredients. The good news is that there are plenty of ways to get your house looking and feeling clean by using basic supplies. Here's a list of some of our favorite ways to green clean the house:

Make your own cleaning products – You can easily make your own cleaning products using simple, inexpensive ingredients. Vinegar has disinfectant properties, absorbs odors and removes mold and mildew. Baking soda is perfect for scrubbing, removing stains and also absorbing odor. Rubbing alcohol disinfects, removes stains and is a natural goo remover. For easy cleaner recipes, try these: [link]

Keep your windows open when possible – This simple habit can go a long way. When the weather permits you to have your windows open, take advantage of it! Allowing fresh air to come into your home helps keep the house naturally ventilated and also keeps toxins flowing out.

Reuse old products – Thoroughly clean your old spray bottles and reuse them to clean windows, bathrooms and kitchen countertops. You can tear up old tee shirts and use those pieces to wipe the counters down instead of using paper towels. Furthermore, instead of throwing out old toothbrushes, use them to scrub hard-to-reach places easily.

Leave your shoes at the door – Stop and think about where your shoes have been today: in the street, in public restrooms, at the grocery store, etc. Trekking through the house with all of the day's germs leaves your house dirtier than you think. Avoid inviting unwanted germs into your home by leaving your shoes at the door.

Green cleaning is easier than you think. Making your own products is often cheaper than purchasing commercial cleaners and gives you peace of mind knowing that you are not exposing your family to harsh chemicals!
