McKinney North Ranks Among Nation's Top High Schools

Trinity Falls - McKinney North Ranks Among Nation's Top High Schools

May 24, 2018

What does a top-performing high school look like? It looks a lot like McKinney North. Our favorite high school — and the one our young residents attend — once again made U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best High Schools” list.

The Bulldogs received a prestigious silver medal on the annual report. Rankings are based on students’ overall performance on state-mandated tests, disadvantaged students’ performances on those tests, graduation rate and Advanced Placement test data.

This year, the magazine ranked 20,548 public schools in all 50 states. Only the top 5,948 were awarded gold, silver or bronze medals.

U.S. News & World ranked the McKinney North No. 98 in Texas. McKinney North has a 100 percent graduation rate. The AP® participation rate at the school is 67 percent with 71 percent of those taking the tests passing.

The award is no surprise to us. McKinney North ranked in the top 100 on the 2018 Niche.com list of Best Public High Schools in Texas, as well. Those rankings are based on rigorous analysis of key statistics and millions of reviews from students and parents using data from the U.S. Department of Education. Ranking factors include state test scores, college readiness, graduation rates, SAT/ACT scores, teacher quality, and high school ratings.

Academics aren’t the only arena our “Dawgs” excel in. As of 2018, the band program has nabbed 15 years-worth of consecutive UIL Sweepstakes Awards, earned from marching band, concert band and sight-reading. Over the years, athletic teams have won a number of regional and conference titles. When it comes to clubs and organizations, the high school boasts 39 — including three honor societies.

Congratulations to the teachers, students and staff of McKinney North and Go Bulldogs!
