Crank Up Cool Fun for Father's Day

Trinity Falls - Crank Up Cool Fun for Father's Day

June 04, 2018

Where will all the cool dads be this Father’s Day? Enjoying homemade ice cream and plenty of frozen fun at the 23rd annual Killis Melton Ice Cream Crank-Off 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, June 17.

Strong arms will be churning up homemade ice cream for everyone to enjoy at Chestnut Square Historic Village, 315 S Chestnut Street, in downtown McKinney. Despite the potential for brain freeze, we are looking forward to scooping up the competition-awarding bragging rights. We even get to help name the winner, with Trinity Falls Marketing Manager Jessica Zeeb sitting on the judging panel.

While you had us at homemade ice cream, there will be plenty of other family-friendly activities as well including an ice cream sandwich-eating competition, live music by Santa Fe Line and Pat Harrigan, carnival games, pony rides, balloon artists, face painters, a petting zoo and a magic show. Don’t miss a chance to see the largest collection of freezers in the world at the Doc & Clyde Ice Cream Freezer Museum.

“This is such a fun event,” said Jaymie Pedigo, Executive Director of Chestnut Square. “Last year, we had 3,500 people attend, and we’ve had up to 35 people compete in the ice cream-making contest.”

Pedigo said this is the first year the event has been held on Father’s Day.

“When looking at the calendar last year, we thought it would be fun to have it on Father’s Day,” she said. “The ice cream sandwich-eating contest will be a great way for dads and kids to connect. We’ll have three competitions – father and child, kids to age 12 and anyone over 12.”

The Crank-Off has been featured on The Food Network and in American Profile Magazine. Admission to the Crank-Off, museum and ice cream-eating challenge is free. Tickets must be purchased for all other activities.
