Johnson Development Acquires First Austin-area Community

February 04, 2019

(HOUSTON, TX – Feb. 1, 2019) —           Johnson Development Corp. has closed on its first Austin-area master-planned community, Bryson in Leander.

Johnson Development closed on the 530-acre development Thursday, purchasing it from Crescent Communities for an undisclosed price. Randy Evans with Eastdil Secured represented Crescent Communities in the transaction.

“Austin is one of the strongest housing markets in the country and north Austin particularly is booming,” said Larry D. Johnson, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Johnson Development. “This is an excellent entry in the Austin market. Bryson is in line with our lifestyle-focused approach and is only 16 miles from the new $1 billion campus Apple announced last month.”

Opened in 2015, Bryson is located just east of Highway 183A. Homes are priced from the $250,000s to the $500,000s by current builders Brookfield Residential, Chesmar Homes, Drees Custom Homes, Lennar, Perry Homes and Scott Felder Homes. Residents enjoy events planned by a community lifestyle director at The Backyard amenity complex as well as trails, catch-and-release fishing and more. Children attend schools within Leander Independent School District.

To date, 315 homesites have been sold to builders in Bryson, which will have a projected 1,261 single-family homes when fully developed.

Houston-based Johnson Development is one of the nation’s leading developers, with more communities on current lists of top-selling master-planned communities than any other developer in the nation. Launched in 1975, the company has 13 active communities in the Houston area, two in Dallas-Fort Worth and one in Atlanta. The 16 communities encompass approximately 74,000 homes and 16.6 million square feet of retail and commercial space on 44,500 acres.

We’ve grown significantly in the Houston area over the past five years and since entering the Dallas-Fort Worth market in 2015, we’ve seen considerable success, with one of our communities there now among the nation’s top-selling,” Johnson said. “We look forward to a similar success into Central Texas.”
