Spend Lazy Days on Lake Conroe

Woodforest - Spend Lazy Days on Lake Conroe

September 27, 2021

Where is the best place to spend a lazy day or two in Montgomery County? Lake Conroe, of course. Located just minutes away from Woodforest, this shimmering lake offers outdoor fun, water sports, fine dining and resort-style vacations. Ready to relax? Here’s a list of things you can do.

Hook a Fish

Lake Conroe is a 22,000-acre lake, so it isn’t surprising that many anglers think it offers the best hybrid bass fishing in Texas. Other fish waiting to be caught include catfish, bluegill and crappies. If you aren’t very experienced or it’s your first time fishing on Lake Conroe, use an experienced fishing guide to get started.

Come Sail Away

Boating, canoeing and kayaking are all popular ways to spend the day. If you have your own boat, you can dock it at one of the many marinas on the lake. There are also public and private boat ramps scattered about. If you don’t have your own boat, don’t despair, you can rent one. Paddleboat cruises are offered on the Southern Empress and the Lake Conroe Queen.

Make a Splash

Families can make a splash in Lake Conroe at one of two swim areas. Scott’s Ridge Swim Area is located on the west edge of Lake Conroe approximately two miles north of FM 1097 on Forest Service Road 212. It features pavilions, picnic tables, fishing piers, parking and restrooms. Lake Conroe Park spans 13 acres with multiple amenities, including barbeque pits, picnic tables, restrooms, fishing piers, two pavilions, a multi-purpose field and sand volleyball court

Take a Hike

Pack your hiking boots and backpack because the “Jewel of Texas” — the Lone Star Hiking Trail — spans 96 miles through the Sam Houston National Forest with an additional 32 miles of loop and crossover trails. The 40-mile Lake Conroe section, lying west of Lake Conroe, begins near the intersection of FS 219 and FM 149 and has four connecting loops.
