Happy Holidays! We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We sure did, with family, friends and plenty of fresh produce for the table. Wondering what we were up to on the  Village Farm  in November? Here’s a look:

Thanks For Your Help

As the old saying goes, “Many hands make light work,” and in November, many hands helped us plant 60 fig trees in just 2.5 hours. We want to extend our gratitude to the many volunteers who gave up their Saturday morning to get down in the dirt with us. All the varieties we planted will produce purple figs, including Celeste, Improved Celeste, LSU Purple and O’Rourke. As the tress are young, we won’t be harvesting for another three to five years. If you couldn’t join us, we will be planting more fig trees this spring.

Birding at the Village Farm

Grab your binoculars and learn more about the birds that call the Village Farm home during a “Birding at Village Farm“ tour. Join one of our Farm Educators for a 1-mile loop around the farm to learn about the birds that live here. The walk lasts approximately one hour. The next walk is 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9. You can sign up here.

What’s in Season

Planning your holiday dinner? Why not stop by our farmers market to pick up some seasonal produce sure to be a highlight of any meal. Right now, you can expect to find cauliflower, roselle pods, salad mix with cilantro, scallions, Napa cabbage, radishes, turnips, collard greens, chicory, kale, Swiss chard, bok choy, Tatsoi, Tokyo bekana, komatsuna, mustard greens, turnip greens, okra (limited), eggplant, peppers and basil.
