Johnson Development Services Closes on Land for Largest San Antonio Community

Johnson Development Services Closes on Land for Largest San Antonio Community

February 07, 2024

Johnson Development Services with development partner, Heartwood Development Company, has closed on 800 acres for a new home community in Briggs Ranch in San Antonio.

The community — which will retain the name of Briggs Ranch — will accommodate approximately 2,000 homes. Land Advisors and JLL handled the transaction.

“This property offers many advantages — an excellent location near Highway 90 and TX 211 that is about 30 minutes from downtown, strong schools within Medina Valley ISD and proximity to Briggs Ranch Golf Club, which is one of the top courses in Texas,” said Michael Cox, President of Johnson Development Services.

The land is within an undeveloped portion of the ranch; currently, only custom homes are built within Briggs Ranch. Cox said he expects development to begin this year with home sales starting in 2025. Builders Highland Homes, Perry Homes, Toll Brothers and David Weekley Homes have been selected to build in the community.

“These are some of the highest caliber production builders in the state,” Cox said. “Their designs will nicely complement the vision set for Briggs Ranch.”

This will be the sixth — and largest — San Antonio-area community for the Johnson Development Services and Heartwood Development Company partnership. Other projects include Cinco Lakes, Davis Ranch, Winding Brook and Willow Point in San Antonio and Overlook at Creekside in New Braunfels.

An affiliate of long-time Houston-based developer Johnson Development Corp., Johnson Development Services focuses on smaller communities in the Johnson portfolio. Besides San Antonio, Johnson Development Services is developing Nolina in Georgetown and the Houston-area projects of Amira, Candela, Grand Vista, Lost Creek, Sorella and Trillium.
