Harvest Green - March Farm Report

Every season is our favorite season, but there is no denying we have a soft spot for Spring. Balmy weather, new shoots and plenty of opportunities to get outdoors. It's perfect. Wondering what we are doing now that spring has sprung? Here's our March report.

Our Farmers Market is So Much Fun

You know that you can pick up organic produce, sustainably raised meats and all sorts of artisanal products, but did you also know that we often plan themed events and festivities? On March 2 we hosted our annual Spring Kickoff. Market attendees were treated to a bevy of outdoor activities, including a wildflower seed bomb making activity, animal meet-and-greet, seedling sale and bounce house. Missed it? Be sure to check out our Farm Blog to learn about our next planned event. Just want to come out to shop? Our farmers market takes place 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays rain or shine.

You Came, You Saw, You Planted

Our second fig tree planting fling took place March 28. We were overwhelmed to have more than 50 volunteers of all ages show up ready to help us plant the remaining half of the orchard. Many volunteers were present at our last planting, but we were happy to see new faces, as well. With their help, we were able to plant 50 trees in just 1.5 hours! Now we wait for the trees to grow. If everything goes according to plan, we should be able to start harvesting figs within the next three to four years!

The tours are a pleasant way to spend the morning plus you get to learn all about the veggies we are growing. We even offer free samples! The next tour is 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, April 27. Neill Elementary Harvest of the Month

We love connecting kids with the farm and local veggies which is why we participate in the Harvest of the Month Program at our own Neill Elementary School. The featured harvest was our vibrant and sweet rainbow carrots. This program, observed throughout all of the elementary schools in Fort Bend ISD, features a different vegetable or fruit each month. In addition to tasting the featured harvest, they get to learn fun facts, nutrition and plant biology.

Stop by the market to pick up carrots, beets, radishes, broccoli, fennel, kohlrabi, arugula, salad mix, lettuce, cabbage, kale, collard greens, Swiss chard, spinach, chicory, radicchio and parsley.
