About Houston’s Top Workplace Awards

This isn’t the first time the Houston Chronicle has honored us in its annual tally of Houston’s top workplaces. In fact, this is the fourth consecutive year — and fifth overall — we’ve appeared on the list. The newspaper partners with Energage to survey Houston-area employees on such things as leadership, culture, compensation and opportunities for growth to determine who receives the title of Top Workplace. Energage CEO Eric Rubino calls it a scientific process and that only a few are honored.

“Being honored with a Top Workplaces award is a distinctive mark of excellence, setting companies apart in a recognizable way,” he said in a 2024 Houston Chronicle article. “Top Workplaces embody the highest standards, and this award, rooted in authentic employee feedback, is a point of immense pride for company leaders.”

The companies are ranked according to size:

Large, 500 or more employees

Midsize, 150 to 499 employees

Small, 50 to 149 employees

With approximately 100 employees, Johnson falls in the last category, ranking No. 22 out of 65 companies listed.

Best and Brightest and More

This isn’t the first time this year that Johnson Development has been honored as a company valued by its employees. This fall, the Houston Business Journal named it a 2025 Best Place to Work in its annual tally. And this spring, we were again named one of the Best and Brightest Companies to Work For by the National Association of Business Resources. This is a five-time honor for us, having previously won the award in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2024.

A service organization of the National Association of Business Resources, the Best and Brightest Companies to Work For competition honors organizations with a commitment to excellence in their human resources practices and employee enrichment. Categories considered include communication, work-life balance, employee education, diversity, recognition, retention and more.

But that’s not all! We’ve also been named a Best Place for Working Parents® three times, in 2022, 2023, 2024. A priority on work-life balance, as well as parental leave, private spaces for nursing mothers, and even occasional temporary daycare services in conference rooms are some of the family-friendly practices that have earned Johnson Development the working parents award.
