South Montgomery County Fire Department to Add New Fire Station in Harmony

Harmony - South Montgomery County Fire Department to Add New Fire Station in Harmony

August 31, 2015

The South Montgomery County Fire Department has announced plans to add a new fire station in Harmony, its first since 2012, at the corner of Discovery Creek Blvd. and Tara Springs Drive.

Construction of Station #6 is scheduled to begin in spring 2016 with an opening planned for a year later when the new facility is expected to help the department maintain its coveted ISO Class 1 rating for performance, staffing, training and water supplies.

The ISO Class 1 rating, earned by fewer than 100 of the nation’s fire departments, is based on statistical information provided by the for-profit Insurance Service Office.   As a result, Harmony residents could realize the lowest possible rates on the fire protection portion of their homeowner’s insurance policy, according to Deputy Chief Clint Cook of the South Montgomery County Fire Department.

The new, 9,000-square-foot facility will house two bays, a fitness center for department personnel, kitchen and sleeping quarters for five.
