Grand Central Park - Horse Sanctuary Finds New Home in Grand Central Park

A local charity is getting a new home in Grand Central Park, Montgomery County’s newest master-planned community, however its inhabitants won’t need a gourmet island kitchen or luxurious master suite – just plenty of grass and lots of tender loving care.

Henry’s Home, a sanctuary for rescued horses, will move into its new home in Grand Central Park once volunteers remove tree stumps and install perimeter fencing on about ten acres along the north side of Grand Lake. Two covered pavilions on the property will be used for feeding, hay storage and for volunteers to assemble.

The organization has been caring for its horses on a two-acre site near Highway 105 in Conroe, about 15 minutes from its new home in Grand Central Park at Loop 336 and I-45.

“We were really at a loss for where to go,” says the organization’s founder, Donna Stedman. “Other places were either too small or too far from many of our supporters in The Woodlands.”

The new property in Grand Central Park allows for volunteers and supporters to care for about ten horses, adds Stedman who named the organization after the first horse she adopted from the Houston SPCA.

Individuals over the age of 18 can care for the horses of Henry’s Home by enrolling in a training and safety orientation class and three horsemanship classes where certified professional teachers provide instruction of basic horsemanship.

“We’re certainly delighted to provide a home for these very special animals,” notes Grand Central Park Marketing Director Shannon League.

Henry’s Home also provides opportunities for veterans to participate in special no-cost therapies with its horses.

“It’s truly a one-of-a-kind experience,” adds Stedman. “We’re grateful to Johnson Development and the team at Grand Central Park.”

Henry’s Home will soon initiate a fundraising effort, Planks of Thanks, whereby financial supporters can be recognized with a plaque on the property’s perimeter fencing.
