Tompkins Named to Best High Schools in America List

Cross Creek Ranch - Tompkins Named to Best High Schools in America List

May 02, 2017

Obra D. Tompkins High School has been named one of America’s top high schools by U.S. News & World Report

The school, zoned to Cross Creek Ranch, was recognized in the magazine’s annual “America's Best High Schools" round-up, earning a bronze medal based on students’ commendable performances on state-mandated tests and how well prepared they are for college.

U.S. News awards medals after reviewing the published data on more than 22,000 schools. Only the top 6,041 high schools in the nation received awards for achievements last year.

Tompkins’ award is all the more commendable because the newly opened school did not have a graduating class or Advanced Placement test scores. Gold and silver medals are awarded based on the previous year’s students’ overall performance on state-mandated tests, graduation rate and AP test data. If not all the statistics are available, a school can only be awarded a bronze medal.

Tompkins already posts impressive state test scores. Last year, the school received all seven possible TEA distinctions including Academic Achievement in Reading/ELA, Academic Achievement in Mathematics, Academic Achievement in Science, Academic Achievement is Social Studies, Top 25 Percent Student Progress, Top 25 Percent Closing Performance Gaps, and Postsecondary Readiness.

Families zoned to Tompkins High School also are zoned to Cross Creek Ranch’s on-site Randolph Elementary School and award-winning Seven Lakes Junior High School. For more information on all the schools zoned to Cross Creek Ranch, click here.
