Unboxing Lamar CISD Aug. 13

Veranda - Unboxing Lamar CISD Aug. 13

August 08, 2022

Lamar CISD is kicking off the 2022-2023 school year with its first-ever Back-to-School Block Party. The event offers opportunities for Lamar CISD parents and kids to have fun while learning everything they need to know about going back to school.

The theme of the event — taking place 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug 13, at Traylor Stadium, 4606 Mustang Ave. in Rosenberg — is “Unboxing Lamar CISD.” Attendees will be treated to carnival games, food trucks, a car show, educational enrichment opportunities and more. We’re sure Veranda families will be there to learn more about the district and how they can help their children prepare for an exciting school year.

Lamar CISD boasts a strong academic program that prepares children for the rigors of higher education. Despite setbacks due to the pandemic, Lamar CISD Superintendent Dr. Roosevelt Nivens says district accountability numbers should fall between 89 and 91 with students showing gains in many areas.

This is the first time in two years that students have taken state-mandated tests. LCISD received an overall A rating from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) in 2019 — the last year the agency reported ratings due to the pandemic.

School safety is as important to the district as a strong academic program. LCISD recently hosted a security summit led by former US Secret Service members. Held in partnership with Stafford MSD and Fort Bend ISD, the summit focused on keeping students safe.

You can learn more about LCISD by watching Niven’s News, a monthly video update hosted by Dr. Nivens.

Veranda elementary school-aged students are particularly excited this year as they will walk to Phelan Elementary, located right here in our community. Older students attend award-winning Wessendorf Middle School, Lamar Junior High School and Lamar Consolidated High School.

We think it’s going to be a fantastic school year.
