We are singing the praises of The Church at Woodforest, which broke ground on the first phase of its permanent facility Sept. 23.
It was a joyous occasion as the Rev. Brent Parker, lead pastor, church members and supporters donned hard hats and picked up shovels to ceremonially turn the first dirt of the project, which is expected to take about a year to complete.
This first phase will be a 19,000-square-foot facility that will house a large multi-use worship center, a gymnasium, classrooms and office space. A sports field also will be built. Construction should be complete by fall 2019. Services will continue at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sundays at Stewart Elementary in Woodforest until the new facility is open.
The groundbreaking comes less than two years after the church first began services in Woodforest in early 2016. Currently, the church has approximately 500 members, but Parker says he tries to maintain the personal approach for which the church is known. Besides Sunday services, The Church at Woodforest has activities for high school and junior high students, men and women.
