5 Tips for Creating the Ulitmate Backyard

Grand Central Park - 5 Tips for Creating the Ulitmate Backyard

May 07, 2020

Where does the ultimate backyard begin? With a new home, our builders and your imagination. Now is a great time to create it because with interest rates at historic lows, the money you save on your monthly payments can be put toward your backyard. You can even roll the cost into your mortgage.

Not sure where to start? We have a few ideas.

Carve Out Separate Spaces
Divide your backyard along the same lines as the common areas of your home. Create a kitchen area, dining area and conversational areas like a family room. Your builder can give you a head start. All Grand Central Park builders offer options for extended patios, built-in kitchens and outdoor fireplaces.

Add Structure
Go beyond your covered patio and add a pergola or gazebo. They create focal points and serve to transition from one area to another based on their function. Don’t forget to add stone paths to make it easier for your guests to reach them.

Don’t Forget the Kitchen
If you plan to host neighborhood barbecues or just beat the heat by cooking outdoors, you will need a summer kitchen. Our builders can set you up with beautiful built in grills, counter space, refrigerators and sinks. All you have to make is your secret BBQ sauce.

Pick the Perfect Furniture
Think of decorating your patio the same way you would decorate your interior. A dining table is a must as are comfortable chairs and end tables. To create a fantastic conversational area, consider purchasing a curved sofa. Make sure your choices are weather resistant, then have fun.

Lights On
The party doesn’t end when the sun goes down — not when you’ve got stylish light fixtures. Hang a chandelier from the roof of your covered patio and lanterns on the pergola. String lights add a touch of whimsey and candles romance. You pick the mood and your lights will do the rest.

If you already own a home in Grand Central Park and want to make changes or add to your backyard, remember to check your HOA covenants and submit any required permits needed.
