Why Drive When You Can E-bike?

Cross Creek Ranch - Why Drive When You Can E-bike?

October 12, 2020

When you visit Cross Creek Ranch during our Cruisin’ Home Tour this month, you’ll have an opportunity to do more than tour our beautiful model homes. You’ll be able to try out an alternative form of transportation that is as fun to ride as it is good for the environment.

E-bike is short for electric bike and riding one is…. well, just like riding a bike. The difference between an electric bike and a regular bike is the addition of a small motor. The motor doesn’t pedal for you. It just provides an “assist” when you decide you need it. Electric bikes are great for everyone, no matter what their fitness level.

They are also great for the environment and help people reduce their carbon footprint. In a recent article about e-bikes, author Andy Olin of the Kinder Institute for Urban Research states that “More e-bikes in the hands of Houstonians could help in hitting the City of Houston’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality in the next 30 years. A 20 percent reduction in the per-capita vehicle miles traveled by 2050 is just one of the targets included in the city’s Climate Action Plan to meet that goal.”

Electric bikes are a cheaper alternative to electric cars with most bikes priced between $1,000 and $13,000. The bikes typically go as fast as 20 to 28 miles per hour with the motor assist. Motors average 40 miles per charge. To get an in-depth look at e-bikes you can read Olin’s full article here.

Once you’ve read it, come visit us. Everyone that tours our model homes throughout the month of October will receive a voucher for a free Pedego electric bike rental to cruise the trails within our community. We have more than 45 miles of trails, including those along Flewellen Creek and other natural areas, so it’s quite a ride.

The e-bike vouchers are available at the model homes, the welcome center or online. Those who register at a model home or online will be entered into a contest to win a Pedego electric bike. Those redeeming vouchers for the free rental will earn a second entry. Plus, Cross Creek Ranch will donate $10 to Family Hope for each rental voucher that is redeemed.

The tours are designed with social distancing in mind and those not ready to venture out can virtually tour them.

Sound good? We think so. After all, why drive when you can ride?
